Dave Mustaine <3’s Rick Santorum, Explained

Looks like Dave Mustaine has me riled of late. There are few artists whose political opinions I give a shit about, but he’s one of them. Part of it is his intelligence, part of it is his forthrightness on the topics of income inequality & the state of working-class America.

Mostly, though, I think I’m disappointed by the extent I revered his talent & his outspokenness when I was a teen.

He’s among our greatest rock guitarists (unlike another outspoken musician who washed up after one great song), but, lately, he’s lost his political compass.

And religion — ideology — is to blame. I get where faith has a place in order to overcome addiction. That I can respect; everyone has a crutch, whatever size is needed. But organized religion has no role in public policy. None.

My respect for Megadave & his trials & tribulations ended with his vocalized appreciation for a politician who would remake the US as a Catholic nation.

He knows personally the damage done by overarching religious authority. I don’t get it.
